Setup Thompson Longhorn Autogates (web & app)

The Thompson Longhorn Auto Drafter can be used with the StockMate App on Android Devices. The gate operation is mainly configured and carried out by the Thompson Longhorn Auto Drafter; refer to the Thompson Longhorn user manual for further instructions. StockMate can be used to trigger the gate operation after handling the animal.

Setup Yards and Gates

On the Web

  1. Select Configuration, Properties & Paddocks, Yards & Gates, + Add Yards.

  2. Name the yards and select the Property. Tick These yards use an auto drafter.

  3. Select the Manufacturer, Model, Protocol and Connection Method. Select Save & Edit Gates.

    To enable auto-sequence options, Protocol must be set to Direct Relay Control.

  4. Select + Add Gate.

  5. Fill in the visible section of the Edit Gate form, select Save. Select Close.
  6. Select Close.

  7. Repeat the above steps 4 to 6 to add multiple gates.

On the App

  1. From the StockMate Options Menu, tap Configuration (top-right, cog icon), Properties & Paddocks, Yards & Gates.
  2. To add a Yard, tap +.

  3. Enter Yards Name, choose Property from the drop-down list, tick These yards use an auto drafter.
    Comms Configuration and Gates will become visible.

  4. Tap Configure Comms.

  5. Select options so the Hardware Connections screen. Select the required Connection Method i.e. USB, Wireless or Bluetooth.
    Tap Save.

    In order to setup auto-sequence options for the Gates, select Direct Relay Control for the Protocol. 
    In the example below, Wireless was chosen as the connection method.

  6. Toggle to initiate the connection. A successful connection will be indicated by a green Wireless icon. Tap Close.

    A successful connection must be established before proceeding.

  7. On the Yards Editor screen, tap Edit Gates.

  8. On the Gate Editor screen, tap +, input Gate Name and an Auto Drafter Gate Number. Tap Save.



  9. Repeat step 8 to add multiple Gates.

StockMate Settings

Connection Method: Wireless

  1. In StockMate, from the StockMate Options Menu, tap Configuration (top-right, cog icon), Properties & Paddocks, Yards & Gates.
  2. Tap the Yard that was setup previously. In this example, tap Demo Auto Drafter.

  3. To set up Comms Configuration, tap Configure Comms.

  4. Select options so the Hardware Connections screen will look like the screenshot below. Tap Save.
    InfoYards: Select the appropriate Auto Yards for the drafting location. See Setup Yards and Gates section above for more information.
    InfoIP Address and Port: will be unique to your setup.

  5. Toggle to initiate the connection. A successful connection will be indicated by a green Wireless icon. Tap Close to return to the Yards Editor screen.

    A successful connection must be established before proceeding.

  6. Follow the steps in the Setup Yards and Gates section above, to setup Gates.

Connection Method: Bluetooth

  1. In StockMate from the StockMate Options Menu, tap Configuration (top-right cog icon), Properties & Paddocks, Yards & Gates.
  2. Tap the Yard that was setup previously. In this example, tap Demo Auto Drafter.

  3. To set up Comms Configuration, tap Configure Comms.

  4. Pair the Thompson Longhorn Auto drafter to the Android Tablet.
    1. On the Hardware Connections screen, tap the Bluetooth icon.
    2. Scan and select the DR Autodrafter from the Available devices list. A pairing code will be displayed on the Android device only. Accept the code.
    3. To return to Hardware Connections, use the back button on the tablet.
  5. Select options so the Hardware Connections screen will look like the screenshot below (Paired Device: select the device paired in Step 4). Tap Save.
     
  6. Toggle to initiate the connection. A successful connection will be indicated by a green Bluetooth icon. Tap Close to return to the Yards Editor screen.

  7. Follow the steps in the Setup Yards and Gates section above, to setup the Gates.

Connection Method: Serial Cable

When using a Serial Cable to connect the Thompson Longhorn, be mindful this will occupy the tablets charging port. If the tablet requires charging during operation, an adaptor will be required. 
  1. In Stockmate, from the StockMate Options Menu, tap Configuration (top-right cog icon), Properties & Paddocks, Yards & Gates.
  2. Tap the Yard that was setup previously. In this example, tap Demo Auto Drafter.

  3. To set up Comms Configuration, tap Configure Comms.

  4. Select options so the Hardware Connections screen will look like the screenshot below (USB Device: select the USB Device.)

  5. Tap Save. Toggle to initiate the connection. Tap Close to return to the Yards Editor screen.

  6. Follow the steps in the Setup Yards and Gates section above, to setup the Gates.

Using In a Scan Session

InfoAn EID reader and Weigh Scales will be required to scan and weigh animals into StockMate. See Hardware Connections Overview (app) for more information.
  1. To use in a scan session, use Hardware Connections to toggle required Devices on. Refer to Create New Scan Session – Session Setup (app) for further details.
  2. To check Hardware connections, tap Hardware Connections (top-right, comms icon).
    1. From the StockMate Options Menu, tap Hardware Connections (top-right, comms icon).
    2. Toggle the relevant Demo Auto Yards to connect. In this example, the connection method is via Bluetooth.

      Depending on the connection method, the Wireless/Bluetooth/Serial icon will turn green when successfully connected.
  3. In the Session Setup screen, tick Unattended and activate options, as required.
    Info
    Unattended Sessions are useful where generally no manual data entry needs to occur within the session. The Pause options can be used to manage animals with follow-ups or flags.
