Barcode Scanner (app)

Barcode scanners may be used to interact with StockMate as a keyboard. They are typically used for entering data into the DNA Case number field (refer to DNA Documents (web & app)) or for populating fields where a barcode scanner can be used to read and enter data, such as Batch Numbers etc.

Depending on the Barcode Scanners capabilities, the device can be connected via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or Serial Cable.

Connection Method: Bluetooth

  1. Turn on the Barcode Scanner and ensure that Bluetooth is turned on.
  2. Pair the Barcode Scanner to the Android Tablet. Refer to your Barcode Scanner Manual for specifics.

Setup Android Tablet

The Barcode Scanner must be paired to the Android Tablet. Do not connect via Hardware Connections in StockMate.

  1. On the Android Tablet, go to Settings.
  2.  Tap Connections, Bluetooth.
  3. Scan and select the Barcode Scanner from the list of Available Devices. A pairing code will be displayed on the Android device only. Accept any pairing requests.
  4. Once the Barcode Scanner is connected, it is recommended that the on-screen keyboard on the Tablet be enabled.
    On the Settings screen, tap General Management, Physical Keyboard, Show on-screen keyboard.

Connection Method: Wireless

  1. Turn on the Barcode Scanner and ensure that Wi-Fi is turned on.
  2. Pair the Barcode Scanner to the Android Tablet. Refer to your Barcode Scanner manual for specifics.

Setup Android Tablet

Do not setup a connection to the Barcode Scanner via StockMate Hardware Connections. In order to work properly, the Barcode Scanner must be connected to the Tablet only.
  1. On the Android Tablet, tap Settings.
  2.  Tap Connections, Wi-Fi.
  3. Once Wi-Fi is turned on, select from the Available Networks. You may be prompted for a password on first usage. The connected Wi-Fi network will be visible in the Current Network Section.
    To return to the Settings Menu, use the back button on the Tablet.
  4. Once the Barcode Scanner is connected, it is recommended that the on-screen keyboard on the Tablet be enabled.
    On the Settings screen, tap General Management, Physical Keyboard, Show on-screen keyboard.

Connection Method: Serial Cable

  1. Turn on the Barcode Scanner and connect the USB serial cable.

Setup Android Tablet

Do not setup a connection to the Barcode Scanner via StockMate Hardware Connections. In order to work properly, the Barcode Scanner must be connected to the Tablet only.

  1. Plug the Barcode Scanner into the Android Tablet.
  2. Once the Barcode Scanner is connected, it is recommended that the on-screen keyboard on the Tablet be enabled.
    On the Settings screen, tap General Management, Physical Keyboard, Show on-screen keyboard.

Using in a scan session

  1. Open an existing session or create a new Scan Session in StockMate.

  2. The Barcode Scanner can be used to input data in the Focus Field (optional) in a scan session. Refer to Session Templates (web) for further details on setting up a Session Template.
    If a Focus Field is not being used in the scan session, tap the field where the Barcode Scanner data will be recorded.

    The on-screen keyboard will become visible in case there are issues with the Barcode Scanner.

    The Barcode Scanner is especially useful in entering data into the DNA Case number field. Refer to DNA Documents (web & app) for further details.
