Joining Male Group (web)

Joining Male Group (web)

The common practice of adding a group of Males to a Paddock of Females for Natural Joinings to take place, will call for some prior setup of a 'Joining Male Group' in order to record joinings to Females in StockMate, that represent multiple joinings of the Males from within that group.
There are two recommended ways to create this 'Joining Male Group' in StockMate.
  1. Creating a dummy animal via Pre-arrival - allows extra attributes and information to be stored against the Animal representing the Joining Male Group.
  2. Creating a dummy animal via Society ID only - single identifier to represent the Joining Male Group, no other attributes or details linked to this animal.
The processes outlined below, are steps for a workflow carried out on the Web, but can also be completed on the App.

Creating a Joining Male Group

Pending Animal in a Pre-Arrival Session.

This method creates a single animal record (Beast ID) that will not be Active in the StockMate database, it will only have a Pending Status, and can be put through multiple Pre-Arrival Sessions if necessary.
  1. Select Sessions, + New Scan Session. Input Session Details, and select Pre-Arrival as the Session Type. Select + Create Session

  2. Select + Add Animal, enter a dummy EID (15 digits) that does not exist against a real animal. eg 111 120250326001. Select + Add Animal.

  3. In Scan Details, add the Identifiers of the Males to the Scan Note.

    Idea
Give the dummy animal a Visual Tag or Society ID that helps identify the Males that will be in that group and perhaps an Attribute to easily find Dummy Animals.

  4. Select Save Changes.

This Dummy Animal can now be used to record joinings for Females with the Joining Male Group.

New Animal created from Society ID

In StockMate where you have the ability to look an animal up (Parentage, Joining, Pregnancy), you can also create an animal by entering an Identifier or text presumed to be an animals Society ID. The Beast ID added, created via Society ID will represent the Joining Male Group. These type of Beast records are not considered Active stock on Hand and further attributes and details, like a list of EIDs in Scan Screen as shown above, cannot be stored against the Beast record, their details will have to be stored externally to StockMate.
  1. Using a Bulk Handling Session (refer to Create New Session – Bulk Session (web) for detailed instructions), select Females for joining, then select Scan Values Tab.
  2. In the Joining Section, select Joined (tick) and add a Joining Type if needed.
  3. Select the pencil next to Male, enter text that will be representing the Joining Male Group. Select the + and a new Beast, with Society ID only, will be created.

Add a Joining End Date for when Males are predicted to be separated from Females.

  4. Add any other relevant details (Treatments, Movements, etc.) for the Females in Session to the Scan Values and select Create session with scans for xx selected animals.
