Sessions Overview (web)

Sessions are heavily used throughout StockMate, for recording animal attributes, drafting, movements, examination results and applying treatments. They can be created via scanning animals, bulk selection or importing data using the relevant templates. The Status of an animal in StockMate is dependant on the most recent session an animal has been in.
Existing Sessions can be edited via different methods depending on the type of Session being edited. These are outlined in this overview article.
It is highly recommended to use StockMate with a Chromium-based Web browser (Chrome, Edge etc.). Using StockMate with other browsers may present issues.

Session Type and Sub Type

When creating a Session, it is important to specify the Session Type. The Sub Type field is optional.
  1. Session Type: This can be selected from a drop-down list and includes Pre-Arrival, Arrival, Handling and Exit.
  2. Sub Type (optional): For each Session Type, a Sub Type may be selected from a drop-down list to provide more detail about the Session.
  3. Animal Status: The status of an animal is generated by StockMate dependant on the last session type the animal has been through.

Session Code

When a Session is created, StockMate will generate a unique session code. This code gives each session an individual identifier that can be communicated easily, can be used for filtering the Sessions List, and linking Inter-property Exit sessions to the corresponding Inter-property Arrival. The code follows a specific format to indicate the Property and the Device the session was created on. The first two characters indicate the Property Code for the Session Property. The second two characters indicate the Device the session was created on. The remaining numbers auto-increment to create the unique session code.

A Property Code is assigned to a property on setup - refer to Setup Properties (web & app) for further information.
The device code is auto-generated each time a new device is synced to the website, to check device codes on the web see Devices (web). Sessions created on the StockMate website will have "AA" as their device identifier.

Create a New Session on the web

A Session is created in StockMate to import, move and exit current animals using the website.
Current animal data can also be input using the tablet via in-field scanning.  Refer to Create New Scan Session – Scanning (app) for details on using the Tablet to input animal data.
A new Session can be created as follows:
  1. Scan Session - Scan sessions are used when scanning individual animals for Arrival, Handling and Exit.
  2. Mob-based Session - If using Mob-based method for recording animal movements and livestock inventory, a mob-based session is used.
  3. Import CSV - A Session template can be downloaded and pre-populated before importing the CSV file into StockMate. This is applicable for Pre-arrival, Arrivals, Handling and Exit Sessions. When importing a CSV file it is important to select the relevant source option i.e. Scan or Bulk as this classification will help distinguish the animals that have been physically scanned in from those that are simply a list of animals that should be in a particular Property/Paddock.
  4. Bulk Session - This function is used to bulk move or exit animals between Properties, Paddocks and Mobs without importing a CSV file. These sessions are used for Handling and Exit only.
  5. Inter-Property Moves - Create Management Area based sessions to allow for transfers of animals between internal properties. There are options for the Inter-property Arrival session to be auto copied from the Inter-property Exit details.
  6. Optiweigh - link Optiweigh devices to automatically create sessions.

Edit an Existing Session

Imported, Scanned or Bulk Sessions can be viewed and edited via the website or the App. The documents below outline ways to edit existing sessions on the web.
  1. Using Bulk Edit - If data entry is missed or incorrect on a group of animals within a session, Bulk Edit can be used to update some scan fields.
  2. Using Import/Export CSV - Importing edits to an existing sessions allows multiple animals and values to to edited at once. All fields are available for editing.
  3. Via Scan Screen - usually used to add or update information on an individual animal.
  4. Edit Existing Treatments – using Import/Export CSV (web) - use to edit existing, or add treatments to animals in an existing session.

Templates and CSV files on the web

For detailed instructions about the use of templates on the website, refer to Session Templates.
Information for populating the Import CSV files can be found in Import CSV - Input Information.
